Dayanne Mirra, currently pursuing a master’s degree in civil engineering, has won a scholarship from the Concrete Masonry Association of California and Nevada. The award was increased from the standard amount due to her exceptional application. Here's how she found herself at Â鶹´«Ã½.

"I graduated SFSU with a bachelor's of science degree in Civil Engineering in 2015. My focus of study was structural engineering and I always wanted to further my academics in the Structural field. However, after college, I took an opportunity to work for SFPUC.

"I found Â鶹´«Ã½ in 2016 when I started looking for a college that had a more flexible graduate program for working engineers. I'd heard great things about the School of Engineering from a coworker who was an alumna from Santa Clara. She was so right because after enrolling and taking my first class with Professor Tracy Abbott in Advanced Structural, I absolutely felt inspired to pursue my graduate degree in Structural Engineering.

"In 2017 I left work to start my own business with family in Brasil, so the Concrete Masonry Association of California and Nevada scholarship will be a great financial help as I continue furthering my academic interest. My particular interest in concrete masonry structures is in sustainable design and the design and retrofit for earthquakes."
